General urology

Mr Mischel Neill has extensive experience providing his patients with general urology services from his Auckland practices.

General urology is a surgical subspecialty that manages the diseases of the urinary tract. Management can be either surgical, medical or both.

The urinary tract consists of the kidneys, adjacent adrenal glands, ureters, bladder, male prostate, urethra, and male testicles. The conditions people can develop within the urinary tract include infections, inflammation, kidney stones, haematuria and congenital defects.

  • Stones

Kidney stones (also called renal calculi, nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis) are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside your kidneys.

  • Male urinary symptoms

Many men experience urinary symptoms as they age, which may be caused by inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis).

  • Haematuria

Haematuria is the medical name for blood in urine and is divided into two categories — macroscopic (visible to the naked eye) and microscopic (detected via testing).

  • Scrotal surgery

Scrotal surgery treats several conditions, including hydroceles, spermatoceles, varicoceles and testicular torsion.

  • Penile surgery

Penile surgery treats erectile dysfunction through the insertion of semirigid or inflatable implants. The implants allow men to get an erection.
